If you are over 18 years of age and are thinking of starting or expanding a full time business, you may be eligible for the Starter Plus grant. To qualify your business must fall into one of the three categories listed below:

* Introducing a new product or service
* Create a new process for creating or delivering a product/ service
* Introduce a new market to the region

This grant can provide up to $5,000 to offset expenses and offers training for start ups and business assistance for companies expanding. Additional program benefits include mentoring, workshops, networking, and more.

Workshop: Selling Food to Ontario, Getting Serious about Food Regulations

Lieutenant-Commander Kelly Williamson, Senior Public Affairs Officer for the 5th Canadian Division, and recently named one of the Women’s Executive Network top 100 Most Powerful Women for 2017. LCdr Williamson is a CAF public affairs officer (PAO) by trade, and will speak about her experiences pertaining to leadership as a female in the CAF, and overcoming obstacles throughout a career that has taken her all over the world. Farm Credit Canada: Get Your Farm Transition Unstuck Information Session

As a young farmer you respect your parents but you are getting frustrated not knowing what “the Plan” is for your future roles on the farm. Parents are overwhelmed knowing they need to get certainty for their future, but they seem to work harder and avoid conflict. Procrastination and avoidance of succession conversations will stop now.

This session will open up communication and improve conflict resolution on your farm to get a succession or transition plan in place this year, not help plan for taxes or debt servicing. You can use texting to ask private questions so all issues are shared in a safe and respectful manner.

Highlights

  • kick-start conversations and develop better language to share your intent and decrease tension
  • understand the needs of each generation and the emotional factors keeping your transition stuck
  • clarify what roles you want, at what age and in which stage in your farm career
  • talk about your expected income streams and housing dreams
  • ask more powerful questions and find fairness in the transition with the successor and non-business heirs
