RTO and OTEC – Sector Partnership Planning Sessions

Develop Workforce Development Solutions for the Tourism & Hospitality Industry!

RTO 9, in partnership with OTEC, is pleased to invite you to attend a project planning workshop to strategically address the critical labour market issues facing the tourism and hospitality industry in our region.

In 2017-18, OTEC conducted a series of consultations with Regional Stakeholders to identify opportunities to better allocate existing resources within the region and more effectively plan investment in workforce development among stakeholders. Building on these consultations, RTO9 and OTEC would like to engage our industry stakeholders, Employment and Training Service Providers and Workforce Planning Organizations in prioritizing and planning a set of project opportunities that are coming to the region in 2018-19.

This meeting will be designed to inform next steps within the region in developing workforce development solutions to meet the current and future labour market needs.

Small Business Centre: Understanding Your Taxes – Belleville

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will host a seminar to help owners of small unincorporated businesses better understand their business taxes.
This means you will spend less time, effort and money trying to figure out your entitlements and obligations, and avoid common errors.

During this seminar, the Liaison Officer will:

  • Explain general bookkeeping concepts and best practices
  • Explain common tax errors
  • Demonstrate how to use financial benchmarks for relevant industries
  • Provide information on the CRA’s services

This seminar is best suited if you:

  • Have business, professional, rental, and/or commission income
  • Are not currently working with a liaison officer

A visit from a Liaison Officer does not constitute an audit, and will not result in the CRA making reassessments to past tax filings.

In Ontario, the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) is a five-year, $1.5 billion investment to the Ontario agri-food sector: $1.1 billion for Business Risk Management funding and $417 million for strategic initiatives to help grow Ontario’s agri-food and agri-products sectors, effective April 2018.  CAP is looking to invest in Ontario’s agri-food and agri-products businesses and their value chains to expand markets, be more competitive, productive and profitable. These investments will continue to support the long-term sustainability of the agri-food and agri-products sectors and their value chains.

The Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence program encourages the development of our rural communities, farms, agri-food processors and agri-food organizations by adding value to existing products, creating jobs and driving economic growth.

Applications for the 2018 program are being accepted now until 11:59 PM on Friday, May 25, 2018.

Program guidelines and the application form can be found on the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence website.

Program information is being shared with MPPs, heads of municipal councils, stakeholders and agricultural organizations, as well as past applicants and award recipients.

Join us for our Annual State of the City Chamber Breakfast with Mayor Christopher.   Come out and enjoy coffee, breakfast, and hear our Mayor discuss plans for 2018 for our great community.

Mayor of Belleville, his worship Taso Christopher, has been a member of Council, was appointed to the Belleville Police Services Board, served on the Waterfront and Ethnic Festival Committee, the Greek Community Board of Directors, the Library Board among others.  He is a Quinte Secondary School graduate and co-owner of Four Season’s Sports.
