Loyalist Training and Knowledge Centre: Ontario Joint Health & Safety Level 2 (For Office)

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, at least one worker member and one management member of a joint health and safety committee (JHSC) are required to take a provincial Chief Prevention Office-approved two-part training program (the first certification training component must be completed before taking this course). To be fully certified part two training must be completed within six months of completing part one.

This course provides hazard-specific offices sector training that gives learners the knowledge and skills to recognize, assess and control hazards in their workplace and to evaluate hazard controls.

Who should attend?

Intended for workers, supervisors, joint health and safety committee members, health and safety representatives.

What you’ll learn

Each section of the course reviews a significant hazard in office environment. These include:

  • musculoskeletal disorders (MSD)
  • motor vehicle incidents
  • workplace violence and harassment
  • exposure to hazardous substances
  • unsafe material handling
  • working at heights.

Loyalist Training and Knowledge Centre: Working at Heights Refresher

Workers who have completed an approved Working at Heights safety course are required to take a Working at Heights refresher course every 3 years to maintain the certification.

Who should attend?

Intended for workers, supervisors, joint health and safety committee members, health and safety representatives, and anyone else who works at heights, this one-day course provides a comprehensive overview of legislated requirements, hazards, and hazard controls.

What you’ll learn

This refresher course focuses on the practical aspects of using fall protection systems and other equipment used for working at heights. Among the topics covered in the course are:

  • warning methods, such as signage, bump lines and barriers, used to identify fall hazards to workers to prevent falls from heights
  • different types of work positioning systems that may be available to safely perform a variety of tasks at height, including scaffolds and powered elevating work platforms
  • different types of personal fall protection systems, including their limitations, appropriate uses, components, and set-up
  • hands-on experience setting up, wearing and using personal fall protection equipment.

This training will provide participants with insights into how they communicate, what their potential challenges are in how they influence others and how to overcome them. They will receive a personalized communication profile in addition to gaining practical experience of emotionally intelligent approaches to build habits for relating well with others and achieving more positive results.
